Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Delaware ranked 12th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Delaware for the 2006-07 school year was $54,537-a 3.9 percent increase from the previous year. Delaware was ranked sixth in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $39,941, an increase of 3.6 percent from 2005-06.

In Delaware, the average salary for charter school teachers was $42,807; beginning charter school teachers’ salaries averaged $37,207.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Mid-Atlantic Region ranked as follows: New Jersey was ranked third in the nation, at $59,730; New York was fourth, at $59,557; Maryland was eighth, at $56,927; and Pennsylvania was 10th, at $54,977.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
