Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Colorado ranked 28th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Colorado for the 2006-07 school year was $45,832—a 3.1 percent increase from the previous year. Colorado was ranked 15th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $36,211, an increase of 3.6 percent from 2005-06.

In Colorado, the average salary for charter school teachers was $32,578; beginning charter school teachers' salaries averaged $30,608.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Rocky Mountains Region ranked as follows: Wyoming was ranked 16th in the nation, at $50,771; Idaho was 30th, at $45,094; Montana was 44th, at $41,146; and Utah was 49th, at $37,775.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
