Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Arizona ranked 31st in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Arizona for the 2006-07 school year was $44,700—a four percent increase from the previous year. Arizona was ranked 20th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $35,127, an increase of 6.2 percent from 2005-06.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Southwest Region ranked as follows: Texas was ranked 29th in the nation, at $45,392; New Mexico was 40th, at $42,780; and Oklahoma was 41st, at $42,379.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35
