Teacher Salary Survey 2007

• Alaska ranked 11th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis 0f Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

• The average teacher salary in Alaska for the 2006-07 school year was $54,678—a 2.5 percent increase from the previous year. Alaska was ranked second in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $42,006, an increase of 3.7 percent from 2005-06.

• In Alaska, the average salary for charter school teachers was $57,068; beginning charter school teachers' salaries averaged $42,552.

• Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Far West Region ranked as follows: California had the highest average teacher pay in the nation, at $63,640; Hawaii was 14th, at $51,916; Oregon was 15th, at $51,080; Nevada was 19th, at $49,426; and Washington was 21st, at $47,880.
