Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Oklahoma ranked 41st in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers‘ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Oklahoma for the 2006-07 school year was $42,379-a 9.3 percent increase from the previous year. Oklahoma was ranked 14th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $36,278, an increase of 10.9 percent from 2005-06.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Southwest Region ranked as follows: Texas was ranked 29th in the nation, at $45,392; Arizona was 31st, at $44,700; and New Mexico was 40th, at $42,780.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378
