Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Ohio ranked 13th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Ohio for the 2006-07 school year was $53,536-a 5.4 percent increase from the previous year. Ohio was ranked 16th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $35,676, an increase of 5.6 percent from 2005-06.

In Ohio, the average salary for charter school teachers was $30,087; beginning charter school teachers' salaries averaged $29,868.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Great Lakes Region ranked as follows; Illinois was ranked sixth in the nation, at $58,275; Michigan was ninth, at $55,541; Minnesota was 18th; at $49,719; Indiana was 22nd, at $47,832; and Wisconsin was 26th, at $46,707.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
