Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Montana ranked 44th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according t0 the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Montana for the 2006-07 school year was $41,146—a 3.3 percent increase from the previous year. Montana was ranked 45th in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $27,134, an increase of 4.3 percent from 2005-06.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Rocky Mountains Region ranked as follows: Wyoming was ranked 16th in the nation, at $50,771; Colorado was 28th, at $45,832; Idaho was 30th, at $45,094; and Utah was 49th, at $37,775.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
