Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Michigan ranked Ninth in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis 0f Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Michigan for the 2006-07 school year was $55,541—a 1.5 percent increase from the previous year. Michigan was ranked 23rd in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $34,100.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Great Lakes Region ranked as follows; Illinois was ranked sixth in the nation, at $58,275; Ohio was 13th, at $53,536; Minnesota was 18th; at $49,719; Indiana was 22nd, at $47,832; and Wisconsin was 26th, at $46,707.

California had the highest average teacher salary, at $63,640, while South Dakota reported the lowest, at $35,378.
