Teacher Salary Survey 2007

Hawaii ranked 14th in the nation for its average teacher salary in 2006-07, according to the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) Survey and Analysis of Teacher Salary Trends 2007.

The average teacher salary in Hawaii for the 2006-07 school year was $51,916—a 5.2 percent increase from the previous year. Hawaii was ranked eighth in the nation for beginning teacher salaries, at $39,361, an increase of 5.5 percent from 2005-06.

In Hawaii, the average salary for charter school teachers was $46,463; beginning charter school teachers’ salaries averaged $37,250.

Traditional public school teacher salaries for other states in the Far West Region ranked as follows: California had the highest average teacher pay in the nation, at $63,640; Alaska was 11th, at $54,678; Oregon was 15th, at $51,080; Nevada was 19th, at $49,426; and Washington was 21st, at $47,880.
